Tournaments & Simultaneous Exhibitions (Simuls)

Last Updated September 2026

1. Tournaments

ZextaOS supports Swiss System and Round Robin tournaments natively. No third-party bracket software. No copy-pasting results into a spreadsheet.

  • Automated Pairings: Dynamic round-by-round pairing based on live scores and ratings. Swiss pairings follow standard FIDE rules.
  • Tiebreak Calculations: Buchholz and Sonneborn-Berger scores calculated automatically at the end of each round.
  • Live Results Board: Students and spectators see standings update in real time as games finish.
  • PDF Certificates: Branded achievement certificates generated automatically for all participants upon tournament completion. No Canva required.

2. Simultaneous Exhibitions (Simul Arena)

A simul lets one coach play multiple students simultaneously on separate live boards. ZextaOS supports up to 20 concurrent boards in a single simul session.

  • Coach View: A grid of all active boards, with visual alerts when a student has moved. Click any board to make your move and move to the next.
  • Student View: Each student sees only their own board. Live spectators can watch any board in the arena.
  • Real-time Move Sync: Moves sync in under 100ms across all boards using Firebase Realtime Database.

3. Setting Up a Tournament

From your coach dashboard:

  1. Go to Tournaments → Create New
  2. Choose format: Swiss or Round Robin
  3. Set time control, number of rounds, and start time
  4. Select participating students from your roster (or open it to all)
  5. Publish — students receive a ZexChat notification automatically

Alternatively, ask Pawn: "Set up a 4-round Swiss tournament for all students rated above 1000 this Saturday at 5pm."
